Library.
Was founded in 1871. Rich funds of the library contain literature on
hydrobiology, ecology, ichthyology, biology, physiology, zoology,
microbiology, parasitology and radioecology. The main attention is paid
to gathering the publications and information on the Black and Azov sea
studies. At present time the fund consists of 150 000 exemplaries,
including 75 000 in foreign languages. The fund of rare and captured issues, consisting of 3000
exemplaries is interesting scientifically and historically.
There are inner and outer informational bases in the library. The inner
bases: catalogues and card indices. The bibliographic indices, prepared
and published on the base of the library, were: “Biology of the Black
and Azov seas”; they depicted literature from 1917 to 1988, from 1995
they produce electronic versions of the index: “Anthropogenic
eutrophication of the Black sea and its consequences”; “Hydrogen
sulphide of the Black sea”.
They issue electronic bibliographic databases: electronic library
catalogue; works of the Institute researches; works of SBS – IBSS;
electronic catalogue of foreign periodic editions (Internet – version).
Outer informative bases: VINITI summary journals up to 1994; ASFA
(Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts) – monthly summary journal (on
paper) – 1971 – 1995 current contents. Agriculture, Biology and
Environmental Sciences – informative editions of the journals titles (on
paper) from 1990. CD – ROMs ASFA – for a period from 1978. From 1999
there is on-line access to ASFA data.
The library cooperates with
international organizations. It makes part of a working group on
preparation of analytical – bibliographical information about water
sciences for the World bank of ASFA. It is an active member of the
European association of libraries and informative centers of marine and
water problems (EURASLIC). It participates in the projects of the
International fund “Recreation” library programme and British Council at
Ukraine.
